R31537 is a cobalt-based superalloy with high chromium and molybdenum. Its high corrosion resistance makes it particularly suitable for the production of implants in contact with living tissue. The composition is specially optimized for closed die forging. The high mechanical strength that can be achieved during this process results in a steel with excellent fatigue strength properties while maintaining good toughness. Therefore, with R31537 it is possible to produce very thin parts with a high level of safety. It is non-magnetic.
The main application areas are the production of permanent surgical implants and all kinds of implants placed in the human body. It is particularly suitable for endoprosthesis and osteosynthesis where high mechanical stress is expected. It is also widely used in the watch making industry and other industries where hardness, toughness, ductility, and corrosion resistance are required.
